The Fabric of an Image

Passion Aissa Dione by Abdoulaye Konaté
9 Oct 2018 | Johann Jacobs Museum | GE

With Christina Wild

Malian artist Abdoulaye Konaté has described the African continent as an “abstract construction of diverse cultures unified by a thread which spans throughout African cultures”.  Using Konaté’s own Passion Aissa Dione as a point of departure, this talk will attempt to weave this thread into an art history which travels along trade routes and with migrations – in and out of the African continent.
