Swiss diplomacy and trade (and its penchant for art)

With Uli Sigg

In the 1980s art collector Uli Sigg engineered the first joint venture between a western industrial concern and a Chinese state-owned enterprise. In the mid-1990s, Sigg was Swiss Ambassador to Beijing.

In his discussion with Roger M. Buergel Sigg examines the similarities and the differences in the ways entrepreneurship and diplomacy edge their way forward on terrain as difficult as that of China. He also considers the role of art as a means of sounding out the recesses of political, cultural and economic life (if we are able to interpret the signs).
