Lecture

Beads of a lifetime

With Kati Torda
26 Aug 2018 | Johann Jacobs Museum | EN

Beads are in use. They circulate, transfer meaning, and foster relationships between people and powers. Their spiritual component is just as integral as their material value: as objects of exchange or things of beauty. Kati Torda moved to Ghana as a young woman. Through familial bonds, contact with dealers, through conversations with the village elders or healers  she has acquired a rich knowledge: a knowledge about beads and their function in the culture of Ghana.

Lecture in cooperation with Afrod’Or Zürich and on the occasion of the exhibition L’Afrique des Colliers: Marie-José Crespin.
